You find it by adding up the month, day, and year you were born until you reach 1 through 9 or a master number (11, 22, or 33). How to calculate your Life Path number
Reduce your birth month, day, and year separately, then add the three results. Take July 20, 1992: the month is 7, the day is 20, which becomes 2, and the year is 1992, which adds to 21 and then 3. Then 7 + 2 + 3 = 12, and 1 + 2 = 3. That’s Life Path 3.
If you hit 11, 22, or 33 along the way, keep it whole. That’s the method Hans Decoz describes, and it’s the one the calculator above uses. We show every step so you can check it yourself.
- Write your birth month, day, and four-digit year as numbers.
- Reduce each one separately, stopping at 1–9, 11, 22, or 33.
- Add the three results.
- Reduce the total to 1–9, 11, 22, or 33. That’s your Life Path number.

Why Life Path calculators can disagree
Some calculators reduce the month, day, and year separately, like ours. Others add every digit in one long line. They usually land on the same number, but keeping a master number can change the result. November 18, 2000 shows how: keeping November’s 11 reaches 22/4, while the one-line sum reaches 13/4.
Calculators also differ on which master numbers they keep: some keep 11 and 22, some add 33, and some reduce them all. If two sites give you different numbers, check which method each one uses before you compare readings.

Life Path, name numbers, birthday numbers, and angel numbers
Your Life Path comes from your birth date. Name numbers, like Expression and Soul Urge, come from the letters of your name, in either the Pythagorean or the Chaldean system. Your Birthday number is just the day of the month. House numerology uses an address. And an angel number is a sequence you notice, like 444 on a receipt, rather than one you calculate.
They all share the same number meanings and answer different questions. Your birth date starts the reading, and your life keeps answering it.

Do twins have the same Life Path number?
Yes, twins born on the same day share a Life Path number. They’re still two people who will live it in their own ways.
Does a Life Path number change after marriage or a name change?
No. It comes from your birth date, so it stays the same for life. A name change can change your name numbers, depending on the system.
Do I need a birth time or birthplace?
No. A Life Path only needs your full birth date. Birth time and place matter in astrology, not here.
What if I don’t know my full birth date?
A guessed digit gives you a guessed number. Try a name-based number instead, or track down a birth record if you can.
